Limit for Links for phpBB 3.3.x

Limit 4 Links is a lightweight extension for phpBB 3.3.x that allows administrators to limit the number of links users can include in forum posts.

The extension is designed primarily as an anti-spam and moderation tool. Instead of completely blocking links, it lets you define a reasonable maximum number of links per message. This helps reduce link-heavy spam, promotional posts and low-quality submissions while still allowing normal users to share useful URLs.

Configurable link limit in ACP

The maximum number of links allowed in a post can be configured directly from the phpBB Administration Control Panel. No changes to phpBB core files are required.

Once enabled, the extension checks submitted messages against the configured limit. If the post contains too many links, the user receives a localized error message and can edit the post before submitting it again.

Requirements

• phpBB 3.3.x
• A PHP version supported by your installed phpBB 3.3.x release

Installation

Download the extension archive and extract it. The extension directory must be placed in:

/ext/buttonpusher/limit4links/

The resulting structure should look like this:

After uploading the files, open:

ACP → Customise → Manage extensions

Find Limit 4 Links in the list and click Enable.

The extension settings will then become available in the Administration Control Panel.

Updating

To update the extension to a newer version:

1. Disable the extension in ACP.
2. Replace the files in /ext/buttonpusher/limit4links/ with the files from the new version.
3. Enable the extension again.

Do not use the Delete data option when performing a normal update unless the release notes explicitly instruct you to do so.

Uninstallation

If you want to completely remove the extension:

1. Disable Limit 4 Links in ACP.
2. Click Delete data.
3. Delete the directory /ext/buttonpusher/limit4links/ from the server.
